AUDIOVISUAL ANALYSIS OF THE SONIC ENVIRONMENT OF DIASPORIC SUBJECTS IN TURKISH-GERMAN DIASPORIC CINEMA

Diaspora is the communities formed by large populations that usually forced to migrate from their homeland, while preserving their own culture in the country they go to over time. A Turkish diaspora was formed in Germany when Turkish people who went to Germany temporarily for work in the 1960s chose to stay there with the changing policies over time. With the 4th generation growing up today, cultural identity and belonging among individuals who are members of this diaspora have caused a changing diversity between generations. The main subject of this study is the reflections of this diversity on music and sound design in Turkish-German diaspora cinema and an analysis of this cultural hybridity through sound using audiovisual analysis techniques.

Siren song

Live Performance of Siren Song at the SONIFIED - A symposium of Sonic Practices, 21.03.2024 - ARTER

Vocal and Electronics: Ä°layda Gönen

Cello: Beste Öztürk

Sirens are creatures in Greek mythology living in the sea with beautiful voices. Their beguiling song would cause sailors to forget home and leap into the sea to meet their death. In this piece for vocal, cello and the fixed audio, a mythological environment and a story is created with the power of different devices on Ableton Live and atmospheric sounds.

OK SUPERCOLLIDER

Written for SuperCollider (a programming language), this piece uses some basic techniques of audio programming to explore the concept of "time". Different synthesizers are programmed to accompany clock and alarm sounds, while the mouse object is programmed to use it as an instrument. The title of the piece is a small reference to Radiohead's masterpiece "OK Computer".

Solar Cınema

Audio Exhibition of Solar Cinema at the SONIFIED - A symposium of Sonic Practices, 29.12.2022/30.12.2022 - ARTER

"Solar Cinema" crafts a dystopian narrative through the blend of soundscapes and human voices. This innovative project juxtaposes a jazz standard like "All of Me" with robotic, electronic sounds, creating a striking contrast. The piece aims to invite the listeners into a surreal auditory experience where familiar melodies meet cutting-edge technology.
